AMT Course Details

The AMT curriculum consist of four (4) parts.  You must successfully complete all four (4) to be eligible to take the national certifying exam (NREMT) and become licensed as an AEMT in Louisiana. 

  • Didactic: 170 hours of lectures and interactive assignments in which you will learn fundamentals of emergency medicine and the care and transportation of patients.
  • Skills:  80 hours of hands-on skills instruction during which ACE4EMS clinical instructors will train you and your classmates in performing the specific tasks in the AEMT's scope of practice.
  • Exams:  After completing both didactic and skills instruction, you will take a final written exam and a final skills exam.
  • Ride-along: During the course, you will schedule a minimum of five 12-hour shifts with a local ambulance company during which you must complete twenty-five (25) contacts with actual patients.
